From Cotton to Cattle: Why the Morning Ag Report Still Matters

March 18, 2024 · by Cade Winslow

Agriculture is the backbone of the Rolling Plains economy, and it has been since the first cotton went in the ground out here. That is why KLSR 105.3 FM builds the broadcast day around it.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9AM, Joe Davis visits with Agriculture Agents from the surrounding counties about everything from planting conditions to pest pressure. Right after, at 9:05, the "Flea Market" opens the phones so listeners can buy, sell, swap and trade.

The Going Home Reports

Come afternoon, Dan Donavan closes the ag loop with the "Going Home Reports" at 4 and 5PM, carrying the day's closing market numbers for cotton, cattle and grain just as folks are heading in from the field.

Markets move fast, but good information travels faster on a 100,000 watt signal. That is the Rolling Plains way, and it is still how The Big Station starts and ends the working day.
